Between the lines // Robyn

Between the lines, a book written by mother and daughter of Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer. The story of Delilah, a real life human girl and her fictional boyfriend (yes, you heard me) Oliver, Prince of the fairytale 'Between the lines'. Oliver wants to escape his book, to join the real world with Delilah and as she helps him after he speaks to her of the page for the first time.

Why can't this book happen in real life? If I stare at a page of the infernal devices for too long, will Will Herondale speak to me and fall in love with me? Sorry, Tessa. Or if not Will then the rest of the long line of my fictional boyfriends, Percy, Jace, Dorian, Peeta, Four and the list goes on and on.

Pushing the wanting aside, the book itself was an enjoyable read, a great book for if you're looking for something light and adorable. The storyline was interesting with having nothing been like it before, a character having to act his fictional character but wanting to escape his story to be with the reader. It makes books look like acting, that the characters we read may not be their actual characters within the book. Strange, huh? However, I believe the end could have been more creative but sets up the next book nicely.

The writing at times was very simple, having the character say or think things that didn't make sense or was wrong. For example, mermaids hating men don't make them feminists. Then characters were enjoyable, at times they were cheesy, but generally sweet when it came to Oliver and Delilah talking to each other. Delilah is relatable to all book readers, being obsessed with a book that you can read over and over again and crushing on a fictional character. We can all relate to that, right? Only ours sadly don't come to life.

All in all, I loved the storyline of the book and am beyond excited for the next one (Off the page). I do suggest you pick this book up, perhaps after a book that left you feeling sad or emotional. This book will defiantly put a smile on your face.
