Winger by Andrew Smith // Ellie {spoilers} {Review + Recommendation}

Hello! I'm back with a new review/recommendation (^_^).

Rating: 3.5/5

So, I'm a little late getting to this because I'm almost positive everyone has read this book, at least nearly everyone on bookstagram have.

I read this book whilst trying to get out of my reading slump and I did enjoy it but once I finished I was still in a reading slump. For some unknown reason I love books set in boarding schools but I know a lot of people also do.

Plot (I'm literally writing from the back of the book):

RYAN DEAN WEST'S LIFE IS COMPLICATED.

He's a student at Pine Mountain, a boarding school for rich kids. He's sharing a room with the biggest bully on the rugby team. And he's totally in love with his best friend Annie, who thinks of him as a little kid.

With the help of his mates and his talent for doodling comics, Ryan Dean is trying his best to get a handle on school, life and rugby. But when the unthinkable happens he has to find a way to hold on to the important things - no matter what.

My Thoughts:

So, when reading this book, even though I was in the middle of a reading slump, it still made me want to read on and I was thinking "I'm totally going to give this a five stars." but then the 'unexpected' happened...my favorite character died right at the end. Not cool.

Then after that the ending felt very rushed for me as I was still trying to get over Joey's death and things were just happening whilst my head was a mess and I was grieving.

Aside from that, once I finished the book, I sat for a while and reflected on it and that is when I realised that Ryan Dean was a bit annoying at times and I wasn't feeling the romance between him and Annie. I felt that needed to have developed more.

Literally, Joey Cosentino saved this book. And I'm shocked because I rarely ever dislike books, like, I'm not hard to please. However, I am going to recommend this book because I know a lot of people love this book and whilst reading it, I did too but the ending just kind of ruined it for me. Sorry.

Read it and then you can determine whether you like it for yourself.

Conclusion: I liked the majority of the book just not the ending. I hated that part.

Extra Notes:

I know I'm very vague with my reviews but I find it difficult to express my opinions,. Basically, I don't know how to put my opinions into words and that's why I co-own this blog, so that I can work on that. So. hopefully over time, they will get longer.

On another note, as you can see I have stopped using banners and am now using my own photography.

I don't know about Robyn, if she will still be making banner for her reviews, but I'm a no longer doing so.

Ellie x
