Book: The Retribution of Mara Dyer
Author(s): Michelle Hodkin
Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆
If you have not read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer or the Evolution of Mara Dyer then don't read this review.
Review:
After a long and horrible wait, The Retribution of Mara Dyer is finally here and was it worth the wait. This trilogy is just so intriguing with characters that you can't help but love and get attached to. At the end of Evolution we're left with Noah being dead. So were told.
I never thought too much about what could happen in this last book, I wanted to wait and let it all play out. Not coming up with theories made it so much more shocking and intriguing to read. From start to finish I was hooked into needing to know what happens and how it all plays out in the end. It was an emotional roller coaster ride with twists and loops that I didn't see coming. It blew me away.
I loved
the character development in this book. The growth that the story took
to reach the end and the twist that I didn't see coming. Since no one knew if Noah was alive or not, I thought having him not in it as much would make a big impact but the characters were still strong without him. Mara didn't need him to lean on, she was a character who could stand on her own. How Jamie still kept the humor to the book, even though it was serious and dark at times.
The ending was a
huge shocker of twists and heart breaking moments, I honesty didn't
know how this was all going to turn out, but what an ending. My heart
broke and was put back together before breaking again. So many emotions.
Some parts could have gone into more depth and felt a little rushed, but that didn't impact the end too much. I thought maybe a Romeo and Juliette ending would have been good and shocking, but what Michelle did was still amazing. The epilogue had me screaming of all kinds of emotions. The very end
leaving me with one big question that I wish we got an answer to. What is Mara's real name?
Michelle Hodkin is such a talented author, and really is so underrated within the ya community. I know she is popular but she doesn't get all the attention she deserves. This was the best book in the trilogy and Michelle deserve so much praise for the story she told.
The
amount of times I swore, cried and screamed over this book. So good.
Honestly can't believe this trilogy is over, I don't want to say goodbye
to these characters and the story. I can't wait to see if Michelle
writes anything else in the future, she is defiantly one of my favorite
authors.
